Our Story

Do I fire the kiln to make the pots?… or do I make the pots to fire the kiln?

As a potter, my job is to create handmade objects that renew an everyday appreciation of the work we all do with our hands, from pouring tea or rinsing berries, to serving a meal to family and friends. I work to create pottery that will encourage the sharing of stories, food and experiences, and to open up the kinds of spaces—inside a soup bowl, around a dinner table, cupped in your hands—that build healthy and robust communities. And try not to burn down the kiln shed along the way.

All my pots are hand-thrown on the wheel and fired with friends at a kiln in Nelson County, Virginia. - Laura Toscano

Our Partners

We could never do this alone— potters are intentional about community.

Every six months we come together to stoke half a dozen cords of wood into the kiln, round the clock in shifts of two for a week, until it reaches 2350 degrees and the pots are covered in gorgeous melty wood ash. We camp out, play music, catch up, laugh, cook communal meals, and learn more every time.

I’m blessed to be a part of two amazing kiln crews, at Tye River Pottery and Muddy Creek Pottery, in Nelson County, Virginia. Thank you, Kevin and Noah.
